Spring started with a great group of volunteers cutting trees and cleaning up on our annual work day, John Allen, Ray Dunn, Bill Allen, Brian Foster, Steve Atkins, CJ Koinkowski, Robin Beauregard, Ken Clarke, Steve Dompier, Tim Patch, Gordon Fuller, Lindy Squires, Peter & Jason Hardy, Jim Vincent, Butch Thomas, Mike Haley, Doug Gagne, Kevin Wilcox, Kevin Bresland, Bill Hanrahan, and Debbie McLaughlin & kids. The six week instructional league in May and June held on our practice area was attended by twelve 10 to 12 year olds. They were lucky to have a variety of teachers, Jim and Nancy were assisted by Julio DelSesto, our new clubhouse employee, and Dana Weber, golf professional. A summer Junior League was held on Monday morning with hot dogs, soda, and chips provided by the Hartwell Fund. The league culminated in a Junior Tournament won by Keeton Foster.

The Ladies League on Monday nights was very successful with over 50 ladies participating. We survived Monday rain storms to practice across the road before we went out with a lesson given by Jim and Julio. The night ended with wine, cheese and lots of laughter. Several ladies golf clinics were held on Saturday mornings given by Dana Weber, golf professional.

Men's league on Tuesday night has been well attended. The men are able to purchase a meal when they finish for $5. Lisa Lucier runs a beverage cart on the course and Lisa Brooks serves the meal.

Sunday mornings the course is closed to the public for a variety of tournaments chosen by the tournament committee, Ray Dunn, Jeff & Brian Foster, John Allen, Ann Wyman & Butch Thomas. Ray Dunn successfully runs and scores the tournaments. Sunday morning breakfast is available at 6:30 AM. Play has been speeded up so most are done before noon.

Thursday night Scrambles struggled with many rain showers but when we did play we usually had an interesting game set up by Bruce Gilman. Dinner is served after the Scrambles and prizes are awarded.

The Senior league on Thursday morning has been enjoyed by all who participated. A big thanks to John Allen and Robin Beauregard for setting up teams and awarding prizes.

Many hole in ones were made this year from Keeton Foster(age 10) and Mary Jenkins on the 9th, to Nancy Brooks on the 5th during ladies league, to Dan DeRoche at the MS Tournament who bought a full house all drinks, to Gary Deslauriers who got two hole in ones on the 9th!

The husband-wife tournament was won by Mike and Karen Haley, gross, and Orson and Jane Hartwell, net. Men's club champion was Ray Dunn, runner up Jeff Foster. First flight winner was Ray MacKenzie, runner up Vince Brooks. Second flight winner was Orson Hartwell, runner up Dave Jardine. Third flight winner was Allen Bellville, runner up Steve Buckley. The ladies club champion was Karen Haley, gross, for the second year in a row and the net winner was Jeanne Fuller. Congratulations to them all!!

Breakfast, lunch and food at any time of day are available in our clubhouse. Steamed hot dogs, burgers, homemade soup and daily specials are some of the items we serve. We hosted three birthday parties this year. One for a five year old, and one fortieth and one fiftieth. We won't say who turned 50!

We appreciate members patience during busy times on the course. We try to be friendly to new players, children, seniors and women, and we appreciate everyone being considerate when play is slow. We teach Ready Golf to our women and junior players and hope that EVERYONE practices that. We encourage players to let others players through if there is a hole open in front of them. We have had a part time ranger this year, Hazel Hunter. She has tried hard to keep everyone happy and play moving.

The golf course hasn't looked better! Drainage work is being done on the third tee.

The men's seventh tee is being enlarged. Work is in progress to put a driving range in the practice area. We are always open to constructive suggestions as to how to make PGSCC a better place for all of us to enjoy golf, the outdoors and companionship.

The Beebe Tournament was held on September 6th, run by Butch & Emmy Thomas & friends. Nineteen teams played golf and 100 people had a wonderful meal. The rain stopped until play was finished. It was a wonderful tribute to Paul Beebe who passed away on September 4th. Paul had been a well loved member for many years and was on the Tournament Committee. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Thanks to our clubhouse staff, Lisa Lucier, Lisa Brooks, Vince Brooks, Julio DelSesto, Almut Yakovleff and Carol Rockwell, and on the course, Dave DeLollis, Bert Torsey, Art Post, John Podlenski and Sasha Yakovleff. Don't forget Sunday tournaments continue until October 29th, Greenskeeper's Revenge, and also Turkey Day, when all proceeds from greens fees and food are donated to Joan's Pantry in Chesterfield. The Award's Scramble and dinner is scheduled for Saturday September 20th at 3 PM. All trophies are given out then.
